Welcome, my name is Sylvia Smiser. I am a self taught artist. I enjoy creating one of a kind art dolls and sculpted figures. Vintage Halloween styled artwork and Dia de los Muertos art dolls is what comes naturally to me and what I am most passionate about creating. My husband is a wonderful man who is very supportive of my art and together with our two doggy fur kids we make one happy, busy family.

Embracing 2014 with new WIPs

It's hard to believe that January is almost over.  It's been so busy around here with Holiday fun that I have not had much creating time and frankly, it's been driving me mad!  Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas and New Years.  I have just come to realize that I need to create, like I need food and water.
Sculpting for me is almost euphoric and I become totally engrossed in what I'm doing and I LOVE IT.

Recently I got some time to begin my first pieces of 2014.  I'd like to share with you some quick pictures of these works in progress…

I will soon get to announce, "He's Alive! He's Alive!" Hee Hee

Then, as you know, I love my little skellies.
I have new fabrics and antique trims I'm excited to dress these in.

I also have a couple of other larger scale skellies and a quirky pumpkin guy sculpted.
No WIP photos of those but I will be sure to post them here when they are finished.
I hope you've enjoyed this peak into my process.
I will be back soon to show you more.
Have a wonderful week!

Eudora the Witch is in DOLLS Magazine!

So much love went into making Eudora.  I really enjoyed picking out the antique fabrics and lace trims to fashion her dress and bloomers.  The sculpting of her face was so natural it's as if I already knew her and I was just getting rid of the excess clay to reveal the kind eyes and the weathered face I already knew was there.  I truly enjoyed creating her.
So you can imagine my excitement to find out that Eudora was chosen to be in the October issue of DOLLS Magazine!

There she is...

bottom left hand corner!

She is in some amazing company!

A BIG Thank You to DOLLS!
You have made my and Eudora's Dreams come true.

Eudora is still available.  Her auction ends tomorrow night 9/23/2012.

Thank you for stopping in!
Have a beautiful first week of Fall!

Mr. and Mrs. Frankenstein's Monsters Minis!

Happy Labor day!
I just wanted to share with all of you my latest two creations.
Mr and Mrs. Frankenstein's Monster.
~Sold~
These are the first two in a series of minis that are between 5-5 1/2 inches tall.  These little ones are part clay and part cloth. Their heads are a polymer clay sculpt, (Just learning how to use this type of clay) and their bodies are cloth over a wire armature.  In this photo they are standing in doll stands but they are posable and can sit if preferred.
Up next, I am working on a black Halloween Parade Kitty and an Old Wicked Witch, also both minis.
Thank you for stopping by, you are always welcome here.

Barnabas Collins OOAK Art Doll

Good evening,
I wanted to share my latest creation with all of you.  He was a commissioned piece for a very nice collector and the biggest fan, I know, of the show 'Dark Shadows'.
I feel honored that he asked me to do this for him.  I was so happy that he was pleased with the end result!
Although there is a movie on the horizon with Johnny Depp playing Barnabas Collins, this was made with the original Barnabas Collins, Jonathan Frid in mind.
